Skin, Wounds & Minor Procedures

Many common skin concerns, wounds, and minor procedures can be assessed and treated within a family medicine clinic. An assessment is often needed before booking a procedure so the physician can confirm what treatment is appropriate.

What to expect

Not every concern can be safely treated in the clinic; some patients may need a dermatologist, surgeon, wound-care service, or other specialist. Your physician will first assess the concern and review factors such as medications, allergies, bleeding risk, and previous treatment. If a procedure is appropriate, it may be completed during the same visit or booked separately, and we will explain how to prepare, what to expect afterwards, and what follow-up is recommended.

Appointments and urgent wounds

Book an appointment for most skin concerns and planned procedures. Same-day care may be available for wounds, infections, and other concerns that should not wait; serious injuries or heavy bleeding may require emergency care.

Coverage and fees

Coverage depends on the procedure and why it is being performed. Medically necessary assessment, wound care, and some procedures may be covered with valid Alberta Health coverage, while cosmetic or elective treatment, medications, and supplies may have a fee. Botox medication coverage varies by diagnosis and insurance plan.
